Double Fine Productions has released the latest update for Psychonauts 2, showcasing the game in its first playable state.
This is a massive milestone for fans of the series who thought that this franchise was done for. The gameplay footage has players exploring a Quarry outside of Psychonauts HQ. It contains quests, combat, movement, audio, lighting, textures, and 1 cutscene. According to the lead director, Zak McClendon, this area s about 1 hour and 90 minutes long and explains to viewers that this is far from complete.
In addition to the gameplay the composer, Peter McConnell, who also worked on the first game stated that he has begun work on the game's original soundtrack. McConnell is seen talking to Double Fine's president, Tim Schafer, about the atmosphere of the game and what to aim for in specific situations.
Psychonauts 2 still doesn’t have any other broad release window outside of 2018, but when it does release it will arrive on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One.
