Double Fine Teases Potential Future Projects

Psychonauts developer, Double Fine, says fans can expect to hear some interesting news from the studio.

There is no studio quite as creative as Double Fine; the Xbox studio has been known for their rather unique games, and fans of the studio are in for a treat. The studio, behind games such as Brütal Legend, Broken Age, and Psychonauts, has hinted at possibly revealing something for the studio's 25th Anniversary. There hasn't been much news from the developer since they were acquired by Xbox back in 2019, but that may soon change.

The story of Double Fine is one of integrity and determination; the studio successfully crowdfunded and developed Psychonauts 2, which was met with huge critical acclaim once released in 2021. Psychonauts 2 was so well received that it was even nominated for Game of The Year, but sadly, it was beaten by It Takes Two. Tim Schafer, the founder of Double Fine, was even inducted into the AIAS Hall of Fame. However, fans have been dying to know what the studio has been working on due to nearly two years of almost radio silence… Almost.

Double Fun New Game

It would seem that the studio is working on something, something big. A post was recently shared on the official Double Fine Twitter page, and in this post, the studio reassures fans that they have "cool things in store" and that there is "tons of fun on the way". Along with the post was an attached gif of Raz, the protagonist of Psychonauts. Coincidentally, the studio will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2025, making it the perfect time to reveal potential projects, especially since it has been two years since the release of Psychonauts 2—plenty of time to work on something juicy.

Fans were in an absolute frenzy, with many trying to decipher what the Tweet could mean; many suspected that the studio could be hinting at possibly announcing  Psychonauts 3; this would explain why there was an attached GIF of Raz. However, the GIF could also be used because it was the game the studio was most famous for. Whatever the project might be, we at least know that with the studio being acquired by Xbox, Double Fine won't have to worry about relying on crowdfunding.
