Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, popularly abbreviated as PUBG, has reached massive success since it’s Early Access launch on Steam. Just mere days after boasting 5 million copies sold, the game has now surpassed over six million units, according to a recent press release stating:

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has sold more than six million copies in four months since its Early Access launch on March 23, 2017 with peak concurrent users, again surpassing the 422,000 mark with 422,618 simultaneous players at one time on Steam.

The announcement itself is for a fairly large PUBG tournament at Gamescom 2017 in Cologne, Germany. This event will take place between August 23 and August 26, 2017 and will put the eighty best players in games against each other. Several modes will have contests, such as solo, duo or squads; the latter of which is for between three or four people. Three matches will be played, where the best overall outcomes of those are tallied for a victory.

Additionally, this Gamescom tournament is also the first shot the community might get to seeing a fully first-person mode, as one of the categories are listed as “Duo FPP,” clarified as First Person Perspective. A game mode that restricts players to only use that view and not a third person perspective has been in the works for some time. The tournament will be broadcasted every day of Gamescom at 4PM CEST on the official Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds channels, such as Twitch.

Starting from August 3rd, PUBG will have vanity items for sale that will contribute to the winnings that can be had at this tournament. There’s already a total prize pool available of a whopping $350,000.

ESL, the Electronic Sports League, is hosting this event. The leading eSports platform annually holds the largest tournaments at Gamescom, usually keeping the top spot for games like Counter-strike: Global Offensive. It looks like Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is rising to those ranks quickly, with the first large instances of tournaments being set up.
