It has been over a decade, but it may have finally been enough time for Valve to make a new Counter-Strike game. There are currently rumors, that appear to be quite substantial in nature, which indicates that a new Counter-Strike game, simply called Counter-Strike 2 at the moment, may be in late development. This means that the game may be coming quite soon.
This news was especially pushed by Richard Lewis, a prominent caster and journalist within the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community, and he posted this rumor on his Substack. He claims that he has information from privileged sources which indicate that Counter-Strike 2 has been in development for some time and that it will likely be released later this year. Another indication that this may be true is that Valve hasn’t been particularly active with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive development lately. In addition, there may even be a beta later this month or in April.
The rumors indicate that this new version of the game will be in the Source 2 engine, it will have improved matchmaking, and also make use of 128-tick servers, which will massively increase the speed of these servers.
Additional information comes from the Gabe Follower 2 Twitter account, which posted evidence from Nvidia which featured the file names “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe.” These may indicate that Valve has been in communication with Nvidia about his game, and which will be released sometime quite soon. However, there has been no official word from Valve about these rumors, but that company is famously tight-lipped about practically everything.
These are just rumors at the moment, but there is some good evidence that this may be true. If the rumors are true, then we’ll know by later this month or next month. Let’s keep an eye out and hope that a new iteration of this decade-old game that is still one of the most-played games on Steam will release in 2023.
