Steam Breaks Its Record For Concurrent Players Again

Steam has once again managed to break its record for the number of concurrent players over the weekend.

Steam has beaten its own concurrent user record once again. This past weekend saw a new high of 31,907,902 players on 27 November 2022. Steam appears to beat its own record of number of players every few weeks, but this does indicate that the PC market is continuing to grow and continuing to bring in more players.

These analytics are available via Steam’s own services, but are verified, if slightly different, on the third-party service SteamDB. These kinds of analytics tend to be harder to find for consoles, like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, S, because the companies behind these games generally do not want users to know exactly how many players there are. Steam has always been willing to show off its numbers and statistics nerds will probably always love them for that.

Over this peak weekend, the highest played games included Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is also up there, and that is notable because it’s the only non-free-to-play game in the top few games. However, the vast majority of players will always be connected to free-to-play games as the cost of entry is, obviously, much less than it is with a paid game.

It is worth keeping in mind that these kinds of records have been broken considerably more often ever since the beginning of the pandemic as gaming got a very big boost from everyone being forced indoors, and many people decided to stick around after that whole ordeal. So, expect more of these kinds of records being broken.
