Microtransactions are never a good idea, and it looks like game companies still don’t want to accept that. Yet fans never disappoint: You’d better avoid making a dedicated fanbase mad at all costs. One of these angry fanbases was the fans of Gran Turismo 7, and because of their dedication, they have received a small triumph over the microtransactions of the game.

Late last month, the studio that created Gran Turismo 7 came forward with an apology on the official PlayStation blog. “Thank you for your continued support and feedback on Gran Turismo 7, your voices have not gone unheard,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, the president of Polyphony Digital and the creator of Gran Turismo in this apology. He continued by saying that he’d like to apologize “for the frustration and confusion” caused by the newest patch updates. Yamauchi added that the new patch will “reestablish the reward system with greater balance throughout the game to benefit all players.”

He promised, and he delivered. The latest patch introduces many features that the fans wanted in the first place. Game rewards are increased by approximately 100%, the limit of non-paid credits in player wallets is increased from 20,000,000 to 100,000,000 and many different missions and trials are added. Although this is a nicer compromise than nothing, the community is still angry that a paid game includes microtransactions in the first place. Gran Turismo 7 costs 70$ on PlayStation 5 while most games with a microtransaction system are free-to-play.

Many fans hope for a gaming stage with no microtransactions at all, and we wonder if the time will ever come.
