Dead Island 2 was announced back in 2014 with Yager Developments and Techalnd. The team moved on to Dying Light then Sumo Studios, and now Dambuster Studios. Making them the third team working on the title. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Koch Media’s CEO Klemens Kundratitz provides an update on Dead Island 2‘s development.
“Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we’ve got to get it right,” says Kundratitz. “It’s just a testimony of our dedication to get it right.”
The first game, Dead Island, launched back in 2011 and spawned spin-offs such as the negatively received Dead Island: Riptide and Escape Dead Island. A MOBA game called Dead Island: Epidemic was canceled in 2015. Since then Dead Island 2 has been in development limbo without a solid release date constantly changing hands.
Currently, Dead Island 2 doesn't have a release date but is planned for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 this 2020.
