Dead Island 2 has been in development hell for nearly a decade now, but the game has surfaced once again. This time, the developers released a combination live-action and gameplay showcase titled “Another Day in Hell.A” because the zombie apocalypse in this game still takes place in Los Angeles, and we now have an actual release date. Dead Island 2 will release on 28 April 2023.
The showcase was posted online, and it shows off some live-action stuff for some reason, but when it gets to the actual gameplay, it shows off the wide array of weapons, the many survivors you can interact with, a zombie-based rage mode, and a variety of zombie enemies for you to fight. All of this is shown off with some very energetic voiceover that is far too excited about what this game has to show.
The showcase ends by informing us that the game is now officially up for pre-orders, and that there are special pre-order rewards if you do give them some of your money early. These rewards include special in-game weapons as well as some merchandise like a steel book, a map, a couple pins, some tarot cards, and a figurine.
However, Dead Island 2 has made promises before, such as its 2014 E3 announcement trailer that had far more personality and a more subtle approach to its social commentary about Los Angeles than the current iteration. That old version was also going to be developed by Yager Development, the developers behind Spec Ops: The Line, but is now in development at Dambuster Studios, the studio that developed Homefront: The Revolution and assisted with the development of the fairly recent Chorus, so let’s hope they can deliver on all the hype that this game has generated over it’s long journey through multiple developers and builds.
