EA Cuts 350 Jobs As Part of Reorganization Effort

Layoffs hit EA's marketing, publishing, and operations teams.

EA announced today that it's cutting 350 jobs in its marketing, publishing, and operations teams as part of a reorganization effort in response to a "changing world." This effort also includes the company scaling back its presence in Japan and Russia to "focus on different ways to serve our players in those markets."

The news comes from EA CEO Andrew Wilson via a message posted on EA's website. "We’re making deliberate moves to better deliver on our commitments, refine our organization and meet the needs of our players," wrote Wilson. "In addition to organizational changes, we are deeply focused on increasing quality in our games and services.  Great games will continue to be at the core of everything we do, and we are thinking differently about how to amaze and inspire our players."

Layoffs are, unfortunately, nothing new for the videogame industry. Activision Blizzard let go 800 employees back in February despite record revenue. ArenaNet reported layoffs last month as well, following rumors. The CD Projekt-owned retailer GOG suffered losses that month too. With the growing support for unionization this past year, however, things hopefully won't be this way forever.
