In an interview with Kinda Funny Gamescast Hines discussed Fallout 4 with Kinda Funny's Greg Miller:

“Fallout 4 has gotta be the most successful game we’ve ever launched in our company’s history. More than Skyrim, in terms of what we did.”

In comparison Skyrim, which launched in 2014, sold over 20 million copies where Fallout 4 sold 12 million copies. Hines explained that Fallout 4 may have not resonated with gamers as strongly as Fallout 3, which was Bethesda's first game in the series that took a radically different turn from other games within the franchise. Going from point-and-click to first-person/third-person action RPG.

“When you do another one, well it’s not the first one again, there’s gonna be some commonalities. Like, you can’t just react to VATS in Fallout 4 the way that you did in Fallout 3, because in Fallout 3 you saw it for the very first time. You’re like, ‘shit this is a really cool, interesting way to kind of bring targeting different body parts to a first-person shooter but in a way I understand’

Hines compared Fallout to the Uncharted series explaining that the reaction from diving into the franchise with the latest game as oppose to playing all the previous games. Hines did discuss the future of not only The Elder Scrolls but Fallout as well, without providing any details on the games themselves.

“Whether it’s Fallout or Elder Scrolls, or whatever it is they’re gonna do next, I think their mantra is always ‘we really gotta step up our game.'”

Recently Bethesda released a Texture Pack update for PC and PS4 Pro versions of Fallout 4 and a special edition version of Skyrim for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Fallout 4 is now available Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
