CD Projekt RED has confirmed today the second playable character in their upcoming game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunter, will be Ciri.
Players won’t be able to switch between her and Gerald at will, but instead will only take control of her during certain moments of the plot. CD Projekt RED didn't convey that these sequences would be important to the overall story of the game.
Describe as a when-haired girl from ancient prophecy, Ciri is a descendant of a lost elven blood lineage and was recently the star of the recently released Elder Blood trailer. Ciri is pursued by the Wild Hunt, a band of supernatural riders capable of massive calamity, similar to the Nifgaard Empire. Though her gameplay mechanics still remain a mystery details have surfaced that Ciri’s talents will center on agility and mythical powers.
“Citi is playable only during certain moments in the game - we intrigued her to give gamers another perspective in the story to make it even more engaging” explained studio’s Robert Malinowski. “You won’t play as her for long periods of time, but since she’s crucial to the plot, we though that additional insight will allow gamers to better bond with this cool character.”
“We introduced Ciri as supportive narrative tool and not because of gameplay mechanics. The Witcher was always about Gerald and that has not changed, but that handful of moments when you play as Ciri provides us with glimpses of how the story feels from the other side.”
She’s a living weapon…and everyone wants to control her. This, plus she also has her own will and agenda, so it’s not just finding her that counts. I think that is the most important aspect of this character. Geralt knows Ciri since she was a child. She’s Gerald’s apprentice and they have a close emotional bind - he trained her so she could become a witcheress.”
Earlier this week CD Projekt RED revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would release in May instead of February for extra development time. After the recent releases of several glitch riddled games from notable developers it isn’t surprising that CD Projekt RED is taking the time to ensure that their game launches smoothly.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on May 19, 2014. The game will feature 16 pieces of free DLC, to be released weekly following the game’s release, regardless if you pre-ordered the game or purchase it at a later date for all platforms.
