BioWare’s new IP, Shadow Realms, has stirred up more attention than a fire tornado. The “4v1 story-driven online action RPG” will have a closed alpha for those hoping to assist BioWare in developing their new game. To sign up for the alpha users must have an Origin account, or sign up for one, and provide the necessary information asked by BioWare. The closed alpha is set to start next month.
Shadow Realms isn’t a full-fledged MMO, but places players in control of contemporary Earth heroes who will jump between a world of technology and another of magic. The game’s team will utilize the mechanics of the tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons where one player will assume the role of dungeon master, called the Shadowlord, who’s objective is to stop a team of four heroes by setting traps, haunting them, casting spells, summoning creatures, and controlling any monster they choose. The episodic tale will offer dynamic cooperative action and customizable options.
The name Shadow Realms was first trademarked in March 2014 by EA. Since then, the publisher and BioWare released a series of teasers. Shadow Realms is set to release in 2015.
