In the gaming market, once the parent company wants to pull off the subsidiary studio’s games, there’s nothing that the developer can do to prevent that. We have had this situation occur a lot, especially when the times are dire for both the publisher and the company itself. In a recent announcement by the Fire Face, who is the developer of the famous indie title Small Radios Big Televisions, that their game is about to be pulled from Steam and PS4 in the upcoming 60 days.
After Fire Face, Studio Bean was also notified that their titles would be either delisted or pulled off from sale in two months of time. The plan of Warner Bros. had a pattern, and as it turns out, it is going to be the removal of every single game in the Adult Swim branch. There are some indie hits like Duck Game and Westerado to be pulled off, but what is more curious is Warner Bros. completely letting go of the games under big IPs such as Rick and Morty and Samurai Jack. Unfortunately, the bundle of games to be removed also includes Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality and Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time.
Since the confirmation of removal was announced, some of the games were made free to get by developers on their own websites, which is great to see because once they are wiped off from the stores, you can no longer get them. Some of the developers also have itch.io pages for you to take a look at their projects and purchase them from there. But if you want to get it for the bigger streaming platforms, like Steam, the time is ticking off.
One simple reason given for Warner Bros.’s decision is the fact that their latest title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League did terribly on the storefront. On of top that, the gaming industry had a boom of sudden layoffs, this unfortunate event also swept quite a lot of people’s jobs in Warner Bros.’ offices as well. It is unknown why small developers are getting punished for the mistakes made by other subsidiary studious, but it is at least great for them to see preventing the loss of their work.
It is highly suggested to check out Adult Swim Games on Steam or consoles before Warner Bros. completely pulls the life support of these games, they might be indie but they are considered the best ones from the middle 2010s.
