A New Animal Crossing Game Could Be 2 Years Out

Why a new Animal Crossing title won't release for another 2+ years.

By FaithLane, Posted 08 Apr 2024

Animal Crossing has been a beloved game for many generations already, with the first game being released for the Nintendo 64 back in 2001. This was soon when the love for this game took off. Being able to enjoy decorating your own village, town, or island had many busy days, especially with the latest version, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, where people literally spent days playing the game when it was released in 2020 - perfect timing considering COVID.

The sad thing is Animal Crossing: New Horizons quit receiving updates way too soon in its journey, and it is something the community is still struggling to wrap its head around. However, there has been a rumor going around suggesting that Animal Crossing won’t get a new game until 2026, putting it almost over two years away from us now. This would make a six-year gap between entries in the series as well.

There are many rumors going around about the future of Animal Crossing and exactly what it will look like in the future when we do get the new title in our hands. So far, it has been said to be similar to Animal Crossing: City Folk, where players will be able to have their own city, but this time, there will be a shopping center to sell designs and other things, as well as vehicles to get around the city. This would be a massive step for Animal Crossing, but also a much-needed one too.

With the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS online services shutting down in April 2023, it now makes Animal Crossing: New Horizons the only Animal Crossing game that players are still able to play online with their friends. Nintendo is seemingly planning to release their next console during 2025, but no launch window has been set yet. If this is the case, it would mean a possible new Animal Crossing would have another year on top of that to prepare itself for the console.

Sadly, it will still be a long while before we get any Animal Crossing content again. Many believe that Animal Crossing: New Horizons' lifespan was cut too short for no reason, making many feel the developers just wanted a “break” before working on the next console game. For now, nothing is yet to be confirmed, but it is still rumored. As we receive updates, we will share them with you, so stay tuned.
