For the past months, there has been a rumor going around about how Rockstar was planning to revive Red Dead Redemption from its grave. However, this rumor was going to be revealed Thursday last week. Usually, Thursdays are Rockstar’s day of sharing details about an upcoming update or sharing information through their newswire.
According to some resources, an instance of Red Dead Redemption- the first game in the series- is being remastered for new-generation consoles. This piqued the interest of gamers as the first Red Dead Redemption and its DLC, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare was still only available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The news of Red Dead Redemption returning was revealed by Rockstar today through their websites and social media accounts. Although seeing the old friend back in line was a good feat, disappointing details followed afterward. Rockstar has made another questionable decision while bringing Red Dead Redemption back to players. While in most cases, any other developer would have remastered the whole game as it would fit the current scenario of other developers working hard to get their beloved titles to have a fresh beginning.
In Rockstar’s terms, bringing back Red Dead Redemption consists of porting the title to two consoles that are almost ten years old, not changing the graphics, and not including multiplayer. Luckily, the popular DLC called Undead Nightmare will be available to players.
This immediately caught the attention of players who were expecting a full remaster of the title, being ported over PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S platforms with enhanced graphics and every extra bit included in the originals. It seems like the people who want to experience the original Red Dead Redemption will only be able to do it either by grabbing a PS3 or an Xbox 360 for cheap or playing the same game through a port for the last generation of consoles. People who still want to play Red Dead Redemption on their new generation of consoles still could potentially do it as PS5 has a PS4 backward compatibility and Xbox Players could play the original Xbox 360 version through Xbox X|S Xbox One backward compatibility.
Red Dead Redemption’s remake is being handled by Double Eleven, a team who ported games from PC to consoles before, and their works include titles such as Rust and Minecraft Dungeons. Previous attempts on Rockstar’s remastering titles for the new generations of consoles failed when Grove Street Games were tasked with bringing the first three HD Grand Theft Auto games to current consoles and PC. Unfortunately, it failed horribly, and seems like Rockstar has made a different decision to keep things simple such as a basic port.
Red Dead Redemption will arrive be released for Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation consoles on the 13th of October.
