Final Fantasy XVI'S Story Is So Complex, It Confused Even The Developers

It would seem the story of Final Fantasy XVI was so complex that not even the game's developers could follow it.

Final Fantasy XVI is the highly anticipated next entry into the Final Fantasy franchise and will be adding many new features and mechanics not yet seen in the franchise. One of these new mechanics is the Active Time Lore, the nifty little feature is meant to help players keep track of where they are in the game's story and was implemented because not even the game's developers could fully understand what was going on.

Final Fantasy XVI seems to be turning out to be one of the most ambitious RPGs of all time, mainly because of the sheer scale of the game's story, which follows the protagonist Clive as he lives through three different ages in his quest to get revenge on the ones that have wronged him. With such a complex story, it's no wonder that according to reports, Final Fantasy XVI will have over 11 hours worth of cutscenes. This does make sense, especially if you consider that the game's narrative will not only include three different time periods but also an ongoing political conflict. With all this in mind, it's no wonder that things will get confusing.

The Active Time Lore System will essentially allow players to pause the game at any point in the story, including major story moments and cutscenes, and re-familiarize themselves with the various characters, time periods, lore and what events are currently relevant to the scene.

It was also shared in an interview with Polygon, that the game's director, Naoki Yoshida had always wanted him and his team to create a grand scale story that is rich in lore and political conflicts. However, him and his team soon realized that such a dream came with its own set of drawbacks. One of these drawbacks being that players will easily get confused and not be able to keep track of all the game's major story moments.

The Active Time Lore System isn't the only thing that will be able to help players keep track of what is going on in the story, as Naoki Yoshida also revealed that in-game characters will also be available to assist players if they feel lost or just need to be reminded of what is happening in a scene, such as a political scholar that can be found in your main base of operations.

Despite how complex the game's story may appear, this hasn't discouraged fans from wanting to play the game and has instead made them even more excited to play the game’s upcoming demo which has yet to be given a release date.
