New Titanfall Game Reportedly Cancelled

A new Titanfall game, named Titanfall Legends, has seemingly been cancelled by EA despite never having been announced before.

Do you want a new Titanfall? Well, too bad. There was a Titanfall sequel of sorts in development, but Electronic Arts has cancelled the project before anyone even got to have a look at the game. This new project was codenamed TFL, or Titanfall Legends, and while we don’t know how far along development of the game was, we do know that it was reportedly set to be a single-player game.

This news was broken by Bloomberg, and the report goes on to explain that this cancellation coincides with the closing of the mobile versions of Apex Legends and Battlefield. Furthermore, this cancellation has hit the development studio quite hard as about 50 developers at the company have been affected by the decision.

Titanfall Legends was set to be a mashup of Titanfall and Apex Legends. These two games already exist within the same universe as one another, so it should have worked well. Sadly, this is just another of the many cancellations currently happening at Electronic Arts’ development studios. To make matters worse, this version of Titanfall was reportedly set to be directed by Mohammed Alavi, who was a designer on the Titanfall and Apex Legends games. So, he clearly had design chops when it came to this particular franchise.

The last Titanfall game was the superb Titanfall 2, which we said “not only improves on every foundation set by the original game but adds a wealth of new additions that makes the experience feel fresh.” A new Titanfall game does not appear to be in development, and the second game, which was more single-player-focused than the first, failed to sell as well as Electronic Arts wanted it to sell. However, Apex Legends did pick up the slack a few years later. This does not mean that Titanfall Legends will be saved though. Maybe there will be a new sequel one day, but not anytime soon.
