Outcasters Shutting Down Following Closure Of Google Stadia

Splash Damage has no plans to make Outcasters multiplatform

Splash Damage has announced that their Google Stadia-exclusive multiplayer shooter Outcasters will be shutting down with the closure of Google's ill-fated platform. Unlike other Google Stadia exclusive games, such as Tequila Work's GYLT, there are no "plans to bring Outcasters to other platforms at this time."

First released in December 2020, Outcasters is an 8-player arcade-style top-down shooter with a focus on fast, chaotic gameplay. The game was free-to-play and had three game modes: Last Caster Standing, Gold Rush, and Team Battle. Last Caster Standing was an 8-player battle royale, Gold Rush was a coin-collecting game, and Team Battle was a classic team deathmatch mode. Both Gold Rush and Team Battle involved two teams of four players.

Splash Damage, who has previously worked on the Gears of War series, announced the news on TwitterOutcasters cannot be salvaged because it "was designed and built exclusively for Stadia, with many of its systems heavily reliant on the platform", however, Splash Damage still "firmly believes that cloud gaming has a bright future". For now, all eyes will be on the continuing fallout of Google Stadia shutting down because while Outcasters may be the first title to fall victim to Stadia's failure, it won't be the last.
