Control was named our 2019 Game of the Year. The outstanding title from Remedy Entertainment was one of their best titles however recently the title has come under fire. In August 2020, 505 Games revealed the Ultimate Edition that included all past content for Control and would release on Steam. The controversy came when 505 revealed only those with the Ultimate Edition would get a free upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game, stating this was due to "blockers". Well, that statement has been unraveled when users found they could download the Ultimate Edition on current consoles.
Twitter users along with Resetera users collaborated to find multiple instances on Xbox One and PS4 where they could download the game. Spurring issue with 505's original statement.
In comparison, CD Projekt RED and Square Enix are offering free upgrades with their current game's Cyberpunk 2077 and the recently released Marvel's Avengers. With CD Projekt RED going further with offering free upgrades to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
505 Games has not issued a statement to this but as expected fans are not happy.
Control is now available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Along with next-generation versions coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
