Step into the boots of Fury, battling monsters and baddies of all shapes and sizes. Fury Unleashed is a unique rogue-like platform that takes players through the pages of three separate comic books that detail the hero's journey. However, the game is unlike many traditional platformers because it allows players to customize their hero's looks and even their weapons to fight in a play style that feels comfortable to them.
As players navigate each level of combat, they progress from the top left corner of the comic book page to the bottom right, as if acting out each panel. Because every page is randomly generated with a different arrangement of panels, no one way is the right way to go. Fury Unleashed is focused around the player enjoying the experience as much as possible.
That being said, the game is not a cake walk, and can present a fair amount of difficult enemies for the player to defeat. In addition to the 36 possible variations of enemies that can appear throughout the game, the player must fight for their character's very existence. The game's story intertwines these battles with monsters between the pages with conflicts about self doubt, and real world problems outside the comics. As Fury, players must do their best to convince their creator to keep making comics, and keep Fury alive.
If players ever feel like Fury is feeling lonely or overwhelmed by the constant waves of enemies, the game has included a cooperative mode for two players. In this, players will be able to customize their own unique loadouts, but both receive the same upgrades when unlocked. Players can also revive one another at the end of each chapter, forcing them to fight their way to the end by themselves.
Since 2015, Awesome Games Studio has worked vigorously to make the most polished and entertaining version of Fury Unleashed as they can. Over the years, players and critics alike have complimented the game, enjoying its unique aspects that also brought back nostalgic memories of other platforms, such as Contra and Metal Slug. Although their game raises the bar for these other platformers, Fury Unleashed is a game specifically made to entertain players of all sorts, whether this is their first rouge like, or just one in a long list of games.
