BioWare Confirms Anthem 2.0 Team has Started Prototyping New Changes

Anthem 2.0 in early development

By Grayshadow, Posted 15 May 2020

Anthem was one of BioWare's most infamous projects, even more so than Mass Effect: Andromeda. From the game's development causing mental breakdowns to the public release receiving low to a mediocre reception, the title is currently being altered for a 2.0 launch. With BioWare confirming that the team working on this revival has started prototyping new changes.

BioWare's Studio Director, Christain Daily, provided an update on the project. Stating that about 30 members are working on the new Anthem. With the team returning to aspects of the game that fell short and attempting to move forward from there. However, Daily confirmed that the project will take longer than expected.

Daily hopes to keep communication about the changes current with frequent blog posts about the game's changes.

We also want to start putting together some regular comms out to everyone to show/talk about these changes and our progress. This blog is one example, but we also want to include you in more of the day to day and hopefully get you some real interactions with the team. These updates could come in the form of an ad-hoc live stream, or some cool concept art posted on social media, or the occasional feed of me curled up in a ball crying in the corner…

It's possible for Anthem to recover from this slump. Many use No Man's Sky as a prime example as Hello Games was able to turn that game around thanks to constant updates, a rerelease in the way of a free patch, and continued support after the positive new direction.

Anthem can do the same but unlike No Man's Sky Anthem doesn't have a strong player base as of now. No Man's Sky during its difficult process had a sizeable community since its release that kept the game alive whereas Anthem does not. Encouraging players to redownload the game or if they sold their physical copy, repurchase the title, will need to be huge.

Anthem is now available for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
