Anthem Update Features Revamped Looting System

Check out Anthem's new looting system

By Grayshadow, Posted 01 Aug 2020

Anthem had a lot of problems but 1 of the most significant was the lack of appealing loot in a looter shooter. The game's guns and armor cosmetic variants were poor to say the least. In a recent update from BioWare the studio explained how they will be resolving this.

BioWare's Christian Dailey explained how Anthem's looting system did fall short and they're been building something from the ground up.

A good player experience depends on the loot system being extensible and robust, and a lot can go wrong. A lot did go wrong. We fell short here and we realized that building something new from the ground up was going to be required – starting with taking a long look and understanding the best in class of the many great games that inspire us. Based on this research, along with your thoughts and feedback, we planned some high-level goals and changes we wanted to try:

Anthem,NoobFeed,BioWare,

This includes:

Increase the frequency of Loot Drops

Loot is viable more often; All items are better and more competitive, but there’s still a chance of getting something exceptional

All loot rarities have strategic value throughout progression

Embrace Choice

You can pursue specific loot without relying on randomness alone; Quests; Specialized Vendors; Unique Loot Tables

Modify your loot, including rerolling inscriptions and leveling up items

Loot will now feel more rewarding than in the previous build, something like the E3 2017 build. In addition, the developers making sure there are "No more useless items" and exceptional items are getting the exact types of bonuses you want. With leveling scaling of loot and meaningful balance changes.

This are all pleasing updates but we'll have to wait and see if these changes will be enough for people to return to Anthem 1 year after the game's launch. Especially with next-gen systems on the way.
