Franchises Microsoft Should Revive

The Xbox One needs some exclusives

By Grayshadow, Posted 23 Dec 2017

Compared to Sony and Nintendo Microsoft doesn't have a lot of exclusive content on their Xbox One. This year Sony released exclusive games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and much more. Nintendo has also had a strong year with the Nintendo Switch easily surpassing the Wii U in sales and delivering incredible games like Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. Microsoft needs some exclusives and with 2018 almost here maybe it's time to revive some dormant ones.

Mechassault

It was recently revealed in an interview with IGN that the reason Mechassault never continued was due to poor sales. After the release of Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf the game failed to meet expected sales and thereby the series was put on hiatus. Given that the free-to-play mech FPS Hawken saw success maybe it's time for the Mechassault franchise to return. Without the Papa Roach soundtrack and more focus on giant robot fighting.

If you were one of the early subscribers of Xbox Live when it first went live then it's likely you played Crimson Skies. It wasn't one of the best selling Xbox games available but those who played it enjoyed the intense dogfighting gameplay. While the game is still a cult classic Microsoft could dedicate a small team to reviving the aerial combat shooter as an Xbox Live exclusive.

Banjo-Kazooie

Yooka-Laylee wasn't the ideal spiritual successor many were hoping for but it serves as a prime example of what platforming mechanics have and haven't aged well. In addition, Nintendo has shown with Super Mario Odyssey that platformers are still popular and can provide extraordinary experiences if done correctly. Together with the knowledge from the last major game in the franchise, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, and Microsoft could give this platforming legend a meaningful return.
