A whole new concept and a total new dimension of the Lara Croft series is it latest “The Guardian of Light”. But the most shocking of all is what will disappoint the boys the most is, Lara’s @$$ is no longer at the best sight. You now control Lara with an overhead camera and the controls are as usual except you get a mouse pointer to direct her shooting. Probably the biggest disappointed other than all the better things the game has to offer. Let’s find out more about the game with my usual reviewing style.

The Good:

- Good story. I won’t say awesome because after the very first chapter, there isn’t much of the story to explore. Could’ve been an awesome story if it’s been stretched a little more, where there was clearly more space in the game but somehow the publishers didn’t. Nonetheless, it’s good and perhaps its being short makes the game more interesting.

- Easy control. Unlike other Lara games which come with a Third Person Shooter view, this one’s pretty different. Overhead camera really makes your movement easier to make and see what’s around and what to avoid.

- GUNS. Yes indeed, lots of them. You can unlock more than 25 different guys including Bazooka during the gameplay. But a new weapon has been added due to the story’s sake is a Spear. Which indeed a magical spear and does help Lara in many different ways. It’s pretty handy indeed.

- Variety in puzzles. This time you get a whole lot of puzzles to solve and some of them are indeed very tricky. Most of them are however piece of cake for a good puzzle solver like me.

- One of the best addition is Lara can carry tons of mines which are very very handy dealing with countless enemy attacks. Not only for fighting but also using it for moving heavy objects during mission and puzzle solving too.

- Use of environment has improved a lot. In most Lara Croft game, there isn’t much to use from the environment but in this game you can use many objects mostly to explode for killing enemies. Objects like cars, walls, poison flowers, can explode if shot at them or set a mine for greater explosion.

- Each mission tells you what are the possible unlocks and the max points you can gain out of it. If you wish to see Lara in her fancy dresses, I recommend you play to get the max points.

- Variety in boss fights. You need different tactics and strategies/ use of the environment to defeat the bosses. They are pretty interesting in real. It’s not just shooting at them and circling in the stage.

The Bad:

- No Lara @$$. There won’t a single guy not staring at her back while being bored at the game. But this time, no more staring. Due to the new overhead view.

- After the game starts with a story, it ends right over there. That’s how you feel after you finish the game. There’s nothing but just moving on from chapter to chapter. If it wasn’t for the puzzles and boss fights, the game would’ve been dead boring and repetitive.

- It’s good that the game has an autosave option but it sales the game sometime in very awkward situations.

- The graphics is a bit 2D type. I know it’s an overhead view but still!

- Not many unlockables in terms of Lara’s personal belongings. Only four dresses to unlock in full game.

- There is presence of another character in the game but he hardly shows up except for the cut scenes. Though he’s very much present in the multiplayer. But the love shown in the end by Lara to him in the end, required a little more explanations during the game.

The game is fun and good for playing. Anyone looking for a game full of puzzles and some good boss fights, The Guardian of Light is the game you should pick.

  • It is just a small game so I guess its expected that there are not much elements into it. I think Square Enix would not continue this overhead series since Tomb Raider's root genre is adventure action. So they end the story instead of stretching it far unnecesarily.
