With a 5-7 hour campaign, two side stories and Raid mode Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is an excellent installment in the Resident Evil franchise

After another cliffhanger, Resident Evil Revelations 2: Episode 4: Metamorphosis is finally here to cut any dangling threads left by the other three episodes. You’ve survived the prison, escaped the village of monsters, and successfully enter the tower that houses the Overseer. While Capcom has taken an excellent shot at the finale, the final sprint toward the end is filled with bumps and gaps along the road.

Taking place after the events of episode 3 Claire and Moira are left with one final challenge: confront the Overseer and escape the island. It’s a shame that most of the significant information about the plot are not delivered through dialogue or cutscenes, but instead via notes and diary entry. In Resident Evil tradition, you’ll find certain environments littered with notes for the player to read. Each one reveals sensitive information regarding the main antagonist and her motives for conducting the Experiment. The way this information was delivered, while loyal to the original Resident Evil games, was lazy in comparison to the other episodes that announced delicate information in shocking ways.

Surprisingly from the first time Claire and Moira’s portion outshined Barry and Natalia’s section. In one sequence Claire and Moira must work together to kill invisible enemies while escaping a crumbling building. Add a countdown timer and this leads to one of the best moments in Revelations 2.

Barry and Natalia on the other hand is dull and uninteresting. Instead of utilizing the strengths and weaknesses of both characters, similar to episode 3, you’ll spend a lot of time walking back and forth while killing the same enemies you encountered in the past three episodes. While it attempts to mix things up by forcing players into an abandoned mine filled with poisonous gas these sections are more vexing than entertaining. Requiring the player to continuously seek higher ground to escape the gas only to renter to find hidden key items. It’s does end on a high note, with a fantastic boss fight against a hideously dangerous creature.

Depending on how you complete the episode you’ll see one of two endings that clear up most of Revelations 2’s mysterious. Those who invested in the season pass or purchased the retail copy will also have the chance to play ‘Little Miss’ and “The Struggle’ which fill in further story gaps of both Moira and Natalia.

Those still playing Raid mode will have more characters to play with. This time along players will gain access to The Overseer.

Episode 4: Metamorphosis concludes Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on a relatively high note. As a whole Resident Evil: Revelations 2 delivers an adequate survival-horror experience with a lot of content to experience. With a 5-7 hour campaign, two side stories and Raid mode Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is an excellent installment in the Resident Evil franchise.
