The Skywalker family has an extensive and notorious history throughout the world of entertainment. With their stories told through movies, books, and even video games. Now, TT Games intends to give gamers the entire historical catalog following this legendary family tree with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
During E3 2019, we had the chance to see the game in action. The entire finished game will include 9 movies and the entire Skywalker cast. Players can choose to play whatever episode they wish, including the upcoming The Fall of Skywalker film when the game launches in 2020 for PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4. The demo we saw focused on episode 6 Return of the Jedi on Tatooine.
The demo started with the Millennium Falcon in space, all built using LEGO bricks before the developers digitized the models for the video game. The space combat was smooth and responsive, with the demo showcasing a small battle with Tie Fighters before approaching the planet.
Tatooine had multiple landing points and seeing the world itself was simply shocking. The graphics were way beyond any LEGO game, with a riched detailed world coupled with the LEGO environments. It was almost like the LEGO world invaded reality.
The demo was in single-player but the presenter made it clear you can play in drop-in drop-out co-op. We saw a combination of Luke Skywalker and C-3P0 but players will have access to an extensive collection of Star Wars characters.
LEGO video games are known for having a third-person view but not LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. This is a third-person action adventure game and the developers went even further, with Luke able to interact using the force with any LEGO figure. In addition, the combat system has been built on to provide a combo system.
The Skywalkers may be the stars but there are other characters that the family owes to their incredible success. Chewbacca was shown using his crossbow to attack, with an over-the-shoulder perspective for precision aiming. Headshots naturally do more damage and shooting the legs or arms can cause those parts to separate.
Without a doubt, this is a massive step forward for the LEGO series in general. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga houses a myriad of new changes from the camera perspective to the realistic graphics. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is more than a new installment in the LEGO games, its a leap forward for all title bearing the LEGO name for now on.
