Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Developer Confirms No Loot Boxes in the Game

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare won't include loot boxes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the next major installment in the yearly series. The game's campaign has been in heated water with critics for its realistic depictions of war but fans are excited about its realistic approach. But the multiplayer has been reported to include pay-to-win microtransactions according to leaks. However, it seems that Activision Blizzard won't be including loot boxes in the game surprisingly.

Studio art director Joel Emslie stated on Reddit with "Sigh. There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare. What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through GAMEPLAY. Stay tuned, we're planning to release info this week."

This is pretty unexpected considering how oversaturated Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was with various different types of loot boxes. In addition, other Activision Blizzard products heavily monetize their games with loot boxes such as Overwatch. But considering governments around the world cracking down on loot boxes this is perhaps the best move.

Activision Blizzard has been in a PR nightmare following Hearthstone Pro Player Blitz Chung's political message supporting the Hong Kong protests against China. In which the company took a pro-China side in the issue, giving 2 different statements in both China and the West. Having another massive negative decision would huge the company even more as loot boxes are considered one of the most hated systems in premium video games.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 this October 25th.
