Gears 5 recently went gold and today, during Gamescom 2019, Microsoft revealed the first gameplay footage of Horde mode. Including a new bonus featuring Kat and Emile from Halo: Reach.
The mode features the class system where you can call in an airstrike, shoot and see through walls, cloak, and use Jack to heal, repair, and attack enemies. The trailer confirmed newcomer Fahz, Marcus, Del, JD, and Kait as playable characters. In addition, we got a first look at the Swarm Berseker and the large map the player can fight against.
These Ultimate abilities will provide advantages against the increasingly harder hordes. With you able to build defenses to aid in your fight.
The Coalition did confirm more playable characters will come to the game with unique ultimate abilities. In addition, new gameplay changes have been added. Players will need to close energy geysers every 10 waves, which will also feature the iconic boss wave as well with them now having health bars. As someone who actively plays Horde mode, this is a great addition.
The last big reveal showed off Escape. A 3-player cooperative mode where you must infiltrate and plant a bomb inside a Swarm hive. Then escape with your life.
Gears 5 launches for Xbox One, PC, and through Xbox Game Pass this September 10th. With a special edition Xbox One launching the same day.
