Ubisoft has stated the studio focuses more on establishing franchises than making 1-hit games. Developing and supporting their games over time such as Rainbow Six Siege, For Honor, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Many have wondered why Splinter Cell, a beloved franchise from Ubisoft, hasn't made an appearance for so long outside from guest appearances. In the recent IGN Unfiltered, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot finally explained why.

Ubisoft,Sam Fisher,Splinter Cell,

“When you create a game, you have to make sure you will come with something that will be different enough from what you did before,” he said. “Last time we did a Splinter Cell, we had lots of pressure from all the fans saying, ‘Don’t change it; don’t do this; don’t do that.’ So some of the teams were more anxious to work on the brand.”

This doesn't mean Ubisoft has allowed the franchise to go completely dark. Guillemot explained that Ubisoft is working on something but cannot say what.

“Now there are some things and some people that are now looking at the brand; taking care of the brand. At one point you will see something but I can’t say more than that,” he seemed to tease.

The last game to be released was the 2013 Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Perhaps we'll finally see the return of Sam Fisher at E3 2019. After all, Snake may have retired but Sam is still kicking it.
