Halo 4 was the start of a new trilogy for the acclaimed franchise created by Bungie. Taken over by 343 Industries, the minds behind Halo Wars, the studio has done a good job keeping the series alive. However, in a conversation between 343 head Bonnie Ross and IGN Gearbox Software was almost the developers of Halo 4.
Bonnie Ross stated that had 343 not been founded under her own leadership, there were a few different options on what to do with Halo moving forward. Microsoft considered Gearbox Studio, who worked on the PC port for Halo: Combat Evolved, and had a lot of experience with FPS games developing Borderlands.
It would've been interesting to see Gearbox Software create the next Halo title, as the studio has been known for its solid FPS system. But how the studio would handle the lore of the franchise would be another story.
