Capcom and Yoshinori Ono Responds to Fan Criticism Surrounding Street Fighter V's In-Game Ads

Fans are not happy with the latest inclusion of ads within Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V is one of Capcom's most infamous releases. When it launched the game was faced with a lot of criticism for its lack of content but over the years Capcom has added enough characters, stages, and story to make the current game feel more like a complete game. However, the latest inclusion of in-game ads was another step backward with fans left livid with this and now producer Yoshinori Ono and Capcom have responded with fan feedback.

In a statement Yoshi stated:

"We value and thank our community for providing feedback on the new Sponsored Content feature added to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition this week. We will continue collecting everyone's feedback to consider how we can improve this new feature for players in the future"

It would seem that the feature isn't going away, just being retooled. Many have stated that this is another dangerous step for triple-a games. In-game ads aren't anything new but were always regulated to the free-to-play market. Eventually, features like microtransactions that were also limited to that market seeped into premium games until players became more comfortable seeing them.

In-game ads are nothing new as sports titles and infamously Alan Wake's Version ad and achievement unlock have included such ads. But to have them front an center, and give players the incentive to watch them, such as awarding the premium currency fight money, could lead to a dangerous path where other publishers include them into their game.

Street Fighter V is now available for PC and PS4, check out our review here.
