Red Dead Redemption 2 launches in a few weeks and during an interview with Vulture Rockstar Co-Founders Sam and Dan Houses revealed a ton of new information about the game. Back when the game was announced many wondered how women would be portrayed considering the time period and how women were absent in the reveal trailer.
When asked about this Dan Houser explained confidently that fans will find the women in the game have varying statuses and levels of power. With some coming into their own as the adventure progresses.
“[There’s] this old intellectual called Lillian Powell, who’s come back to the South from New York, who’s almost like a Dorothy Parker character. There are also ones who are weak and ones who are weak and become strong and ones who think they’re strong but are not. And that goes for men, too…
It was a time when women were beginning to question [their roles], and the Wild West was an area where people could invent themselves for the first time; many of the people who were inventing themselves were women. They were no longer constrained by society, because there was no society.”
That statement does reflect many of the characters from the previous game. Such as Bonnie MacFarlane who faces her own death and challenges traditional roles set during the period.
