Telltale's closure has been all over the internet, with studios highlighting open positions within their company and fans wondering what fate of The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Now a former developer, Vernie Roberts, has filed a class-action lawsuit against Telltale Games for allegedly violating federal and California state labor laws with the mass layoffs.
The law in question is the WARN or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act that was passed back in 1988. This law requires companies of over 100 workers to give 60-day advance notice for mass layoffs, which is defined as the termination of 50 or more employees within 30 days.
To summarize Telltale had an employee count of 275 before 250 were let go. None of the employees let go were offered severance pay and health benefits only lasted for 7 days following the termination.
Telltale is in a lot of hot water following the massive closure. The studio has claimed that it wants to finish The Walking Dead: The Final Season without the staff who was working on the project. Causing massive backlash from members within the gaming community.
