Those hoping for a new installment in the Alan Wake series will be glad to hear that the franchise is coming back, not as a video game but a television series.

Peter Calloway has signed on as the showrunner and writing with Remedy's Sam Lake as executive producer. Lake told Variety:

“in the heart of this story, there are vitally important characters around him as well.” “The story of the original game is our starting point, the seed which will grow into the bigger story we’re exploring in the show,” Lake said. “We’ll be expanding the lore of this crazy and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did.”

This means while gamers won't get an Alan Wake 2 we'll see what happens next in this franchise. Lake did say that making another game in the series would be "a dream of mine". However, the IP is owned by Microsoft so if a sequel does happen it will need the publisher's approval.

Currently, Remedy is working on several projects including Control and CrossFire 2.
