Seems that the demand for living the pirate's life is high as Rare's Sea of Thieves just passed 1 million unique users.
According to Studio Head Craig Duncan and Executive Producer, Joe Neate the issues players are experiencing are due to the massive concurrency of players. With almost 5K players trying to log in in 1 minute at once. Rare is aware of the issue and is working hard on a solution.
They are also aware of delays in rewards and achievement unlocks. If this does happen don't worry, the developers said that logging out and back in should fix the issue.
As for performance issues Rare is working on files to fix that issue as well.
With all the issues plaguing Sea of Thieves, many are finding the game incredible. With positive remarks from gamers highlighting the dense open world and action pack gameplay of traveling through the open sea in search of treasure and plundering other players.
Sea of Thieves is now available for Xbox One and PC.
