Drew Karpyshyn Leaves BioWare Again

Mass Effect 2 lead writer leaves BioWare

By Grayshadow, Posted 09 Mar 2018

Back in June 2017 many Mass Effect fans were excited to see Drew Karpyshyn return to the studio. He was the lead writer for Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 and wrote the Mass Effect trilogy books. After the disappointment generated by Mass Effect Andromeda's story, many thought Karpyshyn's would get the company back on track but on his personal site confirmed he has left BioWare.

Karpyshyn stated his reason to "pursue a number of other projects, including more original novels, an original sci-fi graphic novel I'm co-creating, and freelance gaming work". Karpyshyn said he's not leaving games entirely and is working on something with FogBank Entertainment, which is focusing on narrative games.

I’m very excited to be part of the Fogbank team. I’ve worked with both Daniel and Alex before in my BioWare days, and I really like what they’re building. Obviously this release is a bit cryptic, but as more details of what I’m working on get announced, I’ll be sharing them on my Twitter feed and here on the NEWS page of my website.

Karpyshyn is one of many BioWare talent leaving the studio including Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw, studio general manager Aaryn Flynn, Andromeda lead writer Chris Schlerf, Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider, and Andromeda senior development director Chris Wynn.

BioWare's latest project, Anthem, is set to release in 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
