According to Patent, PS5 Will Play PS4 Games

PS5 is backward compatible?

By Grayshadow, Posted 08 Mar 2018

Backward compatibility is one of the most demanded functions for a new console. It's why the PS3 was so expensive when it launched, able to play PS1 and PS2 games, and one of the most popular features on the Xbox One. Now rumors about PS5 are spreading and according to one of Sony's patents, originally filed in 2015, the PS5 may be able to play PS4 games according to PSU.

While this may please gamers you shouldn't expect PS5 announcements and it's normal for companies to patent technology to avoid patent trolls.

PS4 does offer limited backward compatibility, requiring players to download games on the PlayStation Store or stream PS3 and PS4 game through PlayStation Now.
