Recently, Microsoft ended the closed beta for Sea of Thieves and despite the day one server issues it was a success. However, it looks like Rare and Microsoft may consider an open beta.
In a post on Reddit, user vJoeyz shared news of a possible beta while digging through files for the insiders-only version of the game. While the closed beta, only accessible to those who pre-ordered the game or had access to the alpha, an open beta would stress test the servers better.
In terms of context, the most interesting pieces of information came from several mentions of Order of Souls quest. This is 1 of 3 announced factions in the game along with The Merchant Alliance and The Gold Hoarders. During the closed beta only the Golder Hoarders were available.
Other mechanics revealed were cosmetics and new game mechanics. This includes combat effects including a kraken battle.
This should all be taken with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed by either Rare or Microsoft.
Sea of Thieves will release on March 20, 2018 for Xbox One and PC.
