Whip 'em Out For Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni On Steam This Summer

Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni is coming.

These are glorious times for localizations and ports, for those who like anime like a fat kid loves cake. Publisher Marvelous has announced that Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni is coming to PC via Steam this summer. One more for the boys, slash PC crowd.

Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni is a slasher game that was originally put out on the Playstation Vita, where this sort of waifu bait festers. For Steam, the girl-focused action game will receive a remaster up to 1080p with 60 frames per second (fps), but with the possibility to run even more luxurious visuals for your eyeing needs. Cloud saves and trading cards will be available as well. The downloadable content (DLC) for the game will either be up for purchase in a bundle or separately, but not natively given with the launch title.

Those in tune with certain anime games may recognize Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni as the follow-up to the highly sexually-charged Senran Kagura series, which Marvelous recently decided to port to Steam as well. The way the press release for Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni tries to creatively dance around certain upfront aspects of the game is quite hilarious. Here’s an excerpt:

“The anatomically-exaggerated brawler from the creators of SENRAN KAGURA features outrageous and action-packed gameplay where Japanese schoolgirls transform into powerful weapons after being infected by the mysterious Armed Virus. To activate their newfound abilities, they have to ... get physical.”

That “anatomically-exaggerated” line is the inspiration for this entire post. It’s such a poetic way to not have to be upfront about this game creator’s obsessions with certain huge eye catchers. Even the trailer continues this trend, much in line with the entire Senran Kagura series’ comical nature, in fact. In the clip, we get introduced to “plot-based” gameplay; a common euphemism for gratuitous, over-sexualized content that plagues modern anime.

Anime is trash, but it’s also trash that has a massive and rapidly growing audience. As such, many more releases than just the Senran Kagura series are coming to Steam recently. The quite controversial titles Criminal Girls and Monster Monpiece were recently ported over, which both focus on putting small girls in compromising positions. Previously, the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise has landed on PC as well.

Vita is also still supporting this genre actively. Publisher Rising Star Games recently announced Drive Girls, where the sexy anime embodiment of cars duke it out. Hopefully, this will eventually make it to Steam as well. Hell, take a look at that trailer as well.
