Classic Outcast Remake Gets First Trailer

I'm sorry Miss Jackson, I'm a reveal.

Outcast: Second Contact finally sees some in-game footage in a new trailer. This remaster of a cult classic adventure game is being remade in full for the modern game era. The story is as follows: Players follow the steps of an ex-Navy SEAL, who is charged with saving Earth in a near future where humanity discovers new life in the universe. This story takes place on the planet of Adelpha, where strange, new creatures roam.

Outcast is once again in the hands of Appeal, a French and Belgian studio who once made one of the first open adventure games. Developers Yves Grolet, Yann Robert and Franck Sauer from the studio have picked up where they left off and are part of this iteration as well.

The trailer is a general feel of the verdant, organic atmosphere of the game, complete with desert towns, green fields and riding on weird bipedal creatures. The Star Wars influences are pretty clear in this one.

This remake is being made possible by Appeal signing with publisher Bigben Interactive, who is currently supporting several classic ventures. Previously, the publisher signed with Games Workshop to create a title around Warhammer Fantasy Battles for PC and consoles. Earlier this month, the company also helped bring Flatout 4 to release, after that series took an elongated vacation. Appeal previously tried to fund a reboot themselves on Kickstarter, but fell fairly short of the high $600,000 cash goal. The game didn’t even get to half of that target, but did manage to attract over 5,000 backers, so that might at least show an interest.

In the meantime, there is a polished version of the game, called Outcast 1.1, available on Steam and GOG for a respectable $5.99. Visuals are a lot more nineties, but at least the textures were cleaned up to 1080p.

Outcast: Second Contact is slated for a fall release on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
