Telltale Reiterates Multiplayer Feature in Batman: The Telltale Series

Don't expect a 2,000 player count

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con Convention Telltale went into detail about their multiplayer feature, called Crowd Play, in Batman: The Telltale series. However now the acclaimed developer has revised what was stated in an updated blog.

Crowd Play allows multiple players to vote on decisions and will be debut in Batman: The Telltale Series, with the first episode releasing tomorrow. This feature can be used either locally on via Internet through an advisory panel, poll results, or full control to the crowd.

For playing with friends this is an excellent feature, but Telltale has revised certain statements such as the player count. Instead of 2,000 players Crowd Play will feature 4-12 players only.

“The most important point is that Crowd Play is a local multiplayer experience. It’s designed for everyone to be watching the same screen, at the same time, in the same room and works best with 4-12 people,” Telltale wrote.

“Technically, it can support thousands of players, but they still need to be watching the same screen at the same time. This is mind blowing in a theater full of fans, but we don’t expect you can fit 2000 of your closest friends in your living room so we’ve designed everything for smaller groups.”

Telltale went on to explain that mobile and tablet versions of the game won't get Crowd Play and it isn't designed for Twitch or other streaming sites due to latency. However given the dedication of the community I'm certain someone will figure out a way to make it work.

Telltale has already confirmed that Crowd Play will become a part of all future games from the developer, starting with Batman.

The first episode of Batman: The Telltale Series launches tomorrow. For the full list of game releases for August 2016 click here.
