Mock-ASCII PS4 Roguelike Brut@l Confirmed For PC Release As Well

Looks like Brut@l will be hacking on PC as well.

Those who watched the Playstation Experience this year may have picked up on a new game, called Brut@l, which mixes a classic ASCII dungeon crawler aesthetic in an otherwise Tron-like 3D aspect. While the slasher was previously only announced for Playstation 4, developer Stormcloud Games now also confirmed that Brut@l will be coming to PC.

In response to a comment on the Brut@l announcement trailer, the company stated:

Good news! We'll be coming to PC as well!

On the other hand, the roguelike isn’t currently headed to the Playstation handheld as several other games announced at the Playstation Experience are. A reply to another comment states:

No plans for VITA support at the moment.

Brut@l uses most traditional elements of older dungeon crawlers. It’s possible to choose from different characters, namely Ranger, Mage, Warrior or Amazon. Floors are randomly generated and donned with ASCII visuals that contrast black with white tones. The use of dots and symbols makes the game resemble old classics, such as Nethack, but warped in a 3D setting. There are 26 floors in total, before players must face their final challenge by defeating the Guardian of the Dungeon.

Additionally, it will be possible to craft and such, as a more modern twist. Naturally, these items will be affected by the randomness aspect of roguelikes as well. There will also be a level editor present in Brut@l, for those who want to play dungeon master.

Developer Stormcloud Games is a compact studio from Scotland with about a dozen employees working on the game. Currently, Brut@l is planned for release on Playstation 4 in early 2016.
