Holobunnies by q-bit games started their Kickstarter campaign to raise $5000 to fund their metroidvania-style game with bunnies, lots of bunnies. Bunnies are cute, fluffy and one of the most skittish animals in the animal kingdom. In most games, they’re just randomly running around or used as food for the player, but not in this game; in Holobunnies they have their own adventures.
The story is that the hologram bunnies are still recovering from their last adventure and are having a party. The party is interrupted by a volcano and the bunnies have to leave their home planet in order to find a new planet to call home. Part of the main objective of the game is to travel across time and space to find a new place to live.
Each planet will feature a world map to make exploring them easier. Dwarf planets are event planets for battles, escape missions, treasure hunts, etc, and asteroids will be procedurally generated levels with undiscovered treasure or some sort of evil to fight. It looks like the gameplay will be metroidvania-like, with an emphasis on collecting equipment to reach certain areas. The game also includes voice acting, which gives the Holobunnies even more character than their designs already do..
The campaign started on March 8th 2015 and the project has already gained $3,973, which is a lot more than the game got during its last attempt at a Kickstarter. The game was demoed at Pax East 2015 which has helped its cause immensely it seems. There is no early bird special, but a donation of $10 will get you a digital copy of the game as well as your name in the credits. The highest tier donation, comically called “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE,” gives the donator all the previous rewards, a planet named after them in the game, a playable character, and a chance to celebrate with q-bit games in Montreal.
Holobunnies will be available on PC, Mac and Linux, and is estimated to release in 2016 according to its Kickstarter. It also has a Steam Greenlight page. We will update you as the story develops.
