Microsoft has revealed a new revised rule set for Youtube users looking to monetize footage from Microsoft-published games on video-sharing sites. This will grant Let’s Players and Twitch streamers permission to use content owned by Microsoft as long as they adhere to the rules and agreements.
Under Microsoft’s rules players can monetize footage from Microsoft Studios games if it is captured during normal gameplay, without use of hacking or reverse engineering. Use of gameplay footage to produce pornographic material, obscene, vulgar, or any visual content considered “objectionable”.
These rules do not apply to games not owned by Microsoft Studios. Those seeking to monetize games owned by other publishers will have to contact them specifically. The only exception is Minecraft which has its own guidelines.
Rules that prohibit gameplay footage gated behind paid-access websites and subscription-based services, but revenue earned through network partnerships is allowed. For the full list on the rulings and regulations on Microsoft’s video-sharing policies click the link here.
