If you haven't heard of Fez, I don't know what to tell you. Gomez, the game's protagonist, is an easily recognizable character, and he just may be one of the most familiar video game characters from the past few years. Gomez's world changes when he finds out his 2D world is in fact not so 2D. With a magical third dimension appearing, Gomez begins an adventure that will bring him to the end of space and time.
Fez was introduced to gamers in 2012, with the game's creator, Phil Fish, quickly receiving praise and many awards for his work. After being featured in the documentary, Indie Game: The Movie, Fez and Fish gained even more attention, and in 2013 the designer called it quits naming mistreatment from the industry as his reason.
Despite Fish's retirement, Fez continues to do very well, and has sold well over a million copies since its release. Currently Fez is available on PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox 360, with PlayStation users still FEZless. However, they don't have to wait much longer.
The PlayStation.Blog detailed the release of Fez on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita and also provided a release date for eager indie fans. Polytron producer, Marie-Christine Bourdua, wrote, "People have been asking for a PS3 version of Fez since day one, and we believe it was worth the wait."
Apparently the PS4 version of Fez is pretty snazzy. "The PS4 version is what we consider to be the best-looking and smoothest Fez experience you can get on a TV set, running at beautiful 1080p (and yes, 60fps too). You wouldn’t think that upping the resolution would make a big difference in a game like ours, where the pixels are the size of Gomez’s fist… but it really does look even crisper and blockier — in a good way," wrote Bourdua.
Not a whole lot will change with this version of Fez, however, "the PS4 version is loaded with sexy features," including putting the DualShock 4's lightbar to work, making it easier to experience a late-game easter egg. Buying any of the PlayStation versions will give players access to all of the PlayStation versions, and all three will share save files.
So, boot up your PS4, PS3 and/or Vita and prepare for the arrival of Fez on March 25.
