Be-Aware: No way to bring PS4 video to YouTube?

Thousands of Let's Players are going to be pissed.

It is not a far-fetched statement to say that Sony has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to the PlayStation 4 launch so far.  Wait though, just when it seems like Sony can do no wrong and that they've pitched a perfect game, with just a little over 2 months to go, we're finding out, through a report from Machinima that it may be impossible to post any gameplay videos captured from the PS4 to YouTube.

The PlayStation 4, like the PlayStation 3 before it does not allow the ability to capture video & audio via HDMI due to the built-in HDCP blu-ray protection.  While this is in to prevent piracy of blu-ray discs, it also is cause for concern for the next generation system.  With the PS3, many were able to circumvent this by using the component-out ports on the PS3, but the PS4 does not have this.  As a result, any YouTubers who post video may not have a way to do it this time.

We know for a fact with use of the Share button, the PS4 allows you to stream and upload video to UStream, Twitch TV, Twitter, Facebook, and the PlayStation Network, but so far at this time, YouTube has not been confirmed.  PS4 architect Mark Cerny did say on the Jimmy Fallon Show that everyone is always three clicks away from posting to "Youtube or UStream or Facebook or whatever", but it does not appear right now that YouTube is an option, and he may have been misspeaking at the time.

Alternatively, one could potentially record to Twitch and then convert that video and upload it on YouTube, but this is not a lossless transition and there would be quality degradation with the video.  Also, perhaps Sony is adamant about not getting their games shown on the video service, if this were the case, it could be possible for Sony to get your videos taken down, and if you monetize your channel, that's pretty much game over right there.  That's a huge mis-step right there, and an extreme case, so let's hope that's not the real deal, or it would seem that Sony did not learn from Nintendo's similar mistake with videos on YouTube earlier in the year.

I have reached out to Sony for comment, with no reply thus far.  I will post an update to this article should they get back to me or we get an official statement from Sony on this.
