Jean-Claude Van Damme makes a surprise appearance in Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay teaser.

There are few days left until Mortal Kombat 1 arrives on consoles and the PC platform. The game’s developers, NetherRealm, know how to hype up players with additional trailers of characters being included in the roster and gameplay videos that are published from time to time. Mortal Kombat 1 aims to have a lot of celebrity cameos this time around and it already has celebrities like John Cena and Megan Fox. The next celebrity on the list is apparently Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Although the 80s well-known personality being added to the game might not draw that much attention, however, the addition can be interpreted very differently in terms of the co-creator of Mortal Kombat series, Ed Boon. Ed Boon, before coming up with Mortal Kombat, wanted to make a game about Jean-Claude because he was fairly known for his appearance and fighting style in the movies. Although Ed Boon and people at NetherRealm tried their best to get his likings and name to the game they were making, they couldn’t succeed and the idea of a Van Damme game was shelved almost 30 years ago.

Now that Jean-Claude Van Damme is being added as an alternative fighter for Mortal Kombat 1 makes it a full-circle event for Ed Boon. Meanwhile, during his newbie years, having a celebrity on your game was unimaginable, but now, the series that he built is so massive that Van Damme is being added as an alternative fighter.

The first sign of this teaser was given when both Van Damme and Ed Boon were eating hot wings for a certain company’s video and they briefly talked about Mortal Kombat 1. And today, there was a two-minute teaser video for Van Damme, which also included some gameplay tidbits as well, giving a fully-fletched showcase of him.

Jean-Claude Van Damme will be included in the launch-day DLC called Kombat Pack as part of the Premium Edition of Mortal Kombat 1. Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on the 19th of September for PlayStation 5, Xbox One X|S, Switch, and PC platforms respectively. Do not miss the release date if you are looking to get your hands dirty.
