Gearbox Publishing and Gunfire Games dropped an announcement today that Remnant II will be available on July 25th, 2023. For those who don’t know, Remnant II is an upcoming third-person action-survival shooter and the long-awaited sequel to Remnant: From The Ashes, where you’ll be playing against overwhelming odds by yourself or through a co-op with a friend. You and possibly a willing partner will have to scour the dynamically created worlds to complete far-reaching and branching questlines, obtain loot and take down any enemy that stands in your way.
Just a recap, Remnant: From the Ashes initially threw you into a world that was turned upside down by experimentation gone wrong. While humanity’s quest for knowledge improved their lives, it also unleashed an unspeakable evil on the world. The Root was unleashed, and while it was temporarily stopped, it only bought humanity time. This is where Remnant II comes in, and based on the intro video that was released, the new world carries on several decades after the events of Remnant: from the Ashes.
It’ll be up to you to stop the root and put an end to it once and for all, to save what’s left of the world before the Root completely takes over. Lucky for you, Remnant II will feature an updated archetype system that will give you more freedom to explore different playstyles, along with better passive abilities for groups that will give you a much-needed edge. However, where things become a bit interesting in Remnant II is that it’s taking on more of the Souls-like subgenre with a bit of roguelike. This means that the game will definitely be unforgiving but also present a new set of challenges and enemies with each new run.
Just like its predecessor, going in guns blazing will end your run rather early, but a little strategy or at least some preparation will make the biggest difference in your fight against the Root. Remnant II will be releasing on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S on the 25th of July, with the Standard Edition set to retail for $49.99.
