The month of June is just around the corner, that means the nice and welcoming weather of summer is about to begin. While June is the messenger of the summer season, it also is the beginning of Pride Month. Just like other big companies preparing their pride month schedules, Blizzard’s Overwatch team is also jumping on the bandwagon. Since the characters with different backgrounds are very much prominent in the roster, the development team saw the opportunity to explain the lore and identities behind the Overwatch characters even further.
During the cycle of both Overwatch and Overwatch 2, Blizzard had seasonal events for important months of the year such as Summer Olympics, Winter Wonderland or Halloween Terror. This time around they are adding Pride Month as a monthly event, and it starts on the 1st of July. According to the development team, it is important to mirror the real world events on Overwatch as it happens, and Pride Month was in their long-waited schedule. Characters won’t excessively mention their important identities aloud, but it will have the little tidbits of murmurs during the battles.
Pride Month event on Overwatch 2 won’t only cover the characters in-depth, but make it universally intriguing by adding altered map layouts, new items, skins and more to give the joy of pride month. We won’t judge, though it is quite odd that Blizzard have pushed the Pride Month event heavily after the recent information about the cancellation of highly anticipated PvE mode. We also have not forgotten that Pride Month won’t be available in every country due to their laws and traditions. Overwatch 2’s director Aaron Keller is aware of this fact, and they will have a work around to balance it between both parties of the playerbase.
Overwatch 2’s Pride Month event will be active from 1st of June to 30th of June.
