Lord of The Rings: Gollum Experiences A Disaster of A Release

It would seem that despite just being released, Lord of The Rings: Gollum is already one of the worst rated games of 2023.

Things don't seem to be looking good for Lord of The Rings: Gollum. The game that has just been released, across multiple platforms no less, has already received predominantly negative reviews from both gamers and critics alike. However, it would seem that the writing was on the wall, according to longtime fans of J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of The Rings book series.

Lord of The Rings: Gollum was first shown off in 2019, with Daedalic Entertainment giving the game an initial release window of sometime in 2021, which it missed by over two years only releasing in May 2023. The reason for the late release was due to the project being delayed and set back multiple times. Because of this, many fans lost faith in the project and it would seem they are right for doing so, seeing that as of writing, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is sitting at a "Mostly Negative" rating on Steam, and is currently the worst rated game of 2023.

Since the game's release, reviews have started pouring in and the results, much like Gollum, are not pretty, with a 42 overall rating and with only 3% of critics actually willing to recommend the game. With such a miniscule rating, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is now one of the lowest rated AAA games of both 2023 and of all time. However, things are not over yet as many other news outlets still have to give their input, including us over at NoobFeed. Though the game's final rating is yet to be given, it's not likely that the game will rate higher than it currently is.

It would seem that the reason for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum receiving such low scores was mainly due to multiple technical issues, such as stuttering, lag spikes, texturing issues and overall poor optimization. Even with putting the technical issues aside, the actual gameplay has been described as both "repetitive" and "boring" and left many people unimpressed with the overall experience.

Probably the biggest disappointment, especially to fans of Tolkien's works, is the fact that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is the only game based on the franchise to be released in quite some time. However, fans do not have to wait much longer as there are rumored to be multiple games in the works, all inspired by Tolkien's expansive book trilogy, including a massive new MMORPG.
